MYKOLA BABAK FOUNDATION

The catalogue of Mykola Babak’s photoinstallations, which had been exhibited at the National Museum (Kyiv) in 2006. The artist had been working over the “Sky Chronical” project about 5 years. One of the parts of the project – “Your Children, Ukraine” – was on delay in 2005 at the 51st Venice Biennale as the National project. In his photoinstallations the artist interpret the old photos, which he had gathered in the Dnieper villages. They are enlarged by photoprint to point out the marks of history (breaks and drops, hands prints etc.) on them. Multiple enlargement of small photos create another scale, which is not only plastic, but conceptual as well. Unnoticeable elements of the family album become more vivid on the museum wall under the observers’ sight. The history of Cherkasy region of the XX th c. comes to life due to this optical change.
